'It's almost time' Bazz thought. Bazz could sense it in every direction - freedom will come soon.
"Bazz, I detect about 19 humanoids 3 sectors east."
"I know Matrix, this is our chance."
"Sarge, Hel, we're trapped on this side!" Cleo screeched back.
"There's no place to run girls." Creegan said as he and his goons were almost on top of them. He had lured them down here with a betrayer holo-program, then he could corner and capture them without Voice's interference.
"Wait!" Hel motioned for the girls to follow her. "There's an opening down here."
Voice, as confused as ever because her sensors couldn't quite reach down into the depths, past the mutant underbelly, kept trying to hail Hel, "Hel *fzz* come in *fzz* I c... ear *fzz**fzz* What... going on *fzz*"
"Voice! I can't pick up on her signal, we're going it alone."
As Cleo leaned against the wall for support to catch her breath, to her surprise she slipped right through and landed very uncerimoniously in a dark and cold storage room. Hel and Sarge soon followed.
"Perfect, he can't find us in here." Hel sighed with relief.
Sarge replied, "Yeah, but how do we get out withough him tracking us?"
"Hey guys, check this out." Hel and Sarge turned to see Cleo staring wide-eyed at a chunk of frozen carbon dioxide encased in a large clear refrigerating unit. Inside of which was what looked like a frozen suit of techno body armor, poised in battle mode.
"Cleo, are you sure that's a good idea? That thing looks dangerous." Hel remarked.
"But, it could attack Creegan while we escape. Who knows how long it's been down here, it might be grateful for us releasing it."
But Sarge, paranoid as usual, said, "Or it could be mindless and just shoot everything down, or it could have been planted here by Creegan."
Hel took a look around the area. It SEEMED as though it had been abandoned for a while. The storage room was mostly empty and hidden in shadow. The technology of the body suit looked old, but not ancient. 'A few adjustments and that would be perfect on me,' Hel thought. There were a number of colored switches on the side panel of the unit, she was just about to scan the panel when a shot fired across her neck as Creegan's mutants rushed in after them.
"No time for this, we'll have to do something, I have almost no power left to fight these things," Hel shouted.
Creegan smiled as he heard this and hurled his razor ball straight at Hel. It swerved past her, spitting shocks all the way, and slammed into the panel before bouncing back. Hel, attempting to dodge it as it flew by again, slammed into the panel. That was just the right combination. The unit door fell off with a crunching thud (crunching from the two or three mutants that were caught underneath). What had seemed to be ice now completely disappeared and the being inside crashed to the floor on its haunches. All present company watched as it stood tall and observed.
"Who the hell is this guy?" Creegan asked, not really expecting a response.
"I am Bazz," came a non-gender specific mechanical voice. "You have freed me." It said this as it pointed to both Hel and Creegan. "I am in your debt."
Hel and Creegan had the same thought almost at the same time.
"Capture her!"
"Take him out!"
Bazz looked around at the mutants. "I cannot act against either of you personally, but I will even the playing field."
In a matter of seconds 13 mutants were lying dead on the ground. Bazz lowered the weapon that had been slung around Bazz's back through the whole freezing process. It was a terrifying weapon. Colored black and silver, it shot hot bullets of blue. It didn't even need recharging after each shot.
It was a delayed scream, but Cleo came through nonetheless. Bazz glanced over as if Sarge and Cleo hadn't been there the whole time. Creegan saw this as a losing battle and took this opportunity to get the hell out. He destroyed the entrance, though, on his way, hoping later he could come back with reinforcements.
"Great, trapped inside with a psycho." Sarge said, "Well, I'm not going withough a fight, pal."
"You misunderstood, I did that as a motion of peace. I didn't kill anyone, did I?"
Cleo spoke up, "You just wiped out all those mutants! You are really heartless, you don't consider them, well, anyone?"
"Mutants?" Bazz pondered. "I was unaware they were considered to have rights. Forgive me, as I have been in suspension for quite some time."
"How are we supposed to get out of here?" Hel brought up the question.
"Why, the same way I came in. I was trapped down here in a fight. My enemy is probably long gone but his lair was above this sector. I was lured down through... THAT!" Bazz pointed up to a rusted portal in the shadows of the rafters. The girls ran and climbed up. At the top the portal took a little easing from Sarge and they all climbed out into an empty bar.
Cleo poked her head down the hole and yelled, "Bazz? Are you coming? Bazz? Baaazzz?"
"Where did Bazz go? It wasn't possible to get out any other way." Sarge speculated.
Hel replied, "I don't know, but I don't think that's the last we'll see of
him."
